Last.FM

Someone pointed me to this about a week ago. I finally checked it out. This website is great. You can listen to all sorts of music and it starts to learn what you like. It's totally free, there is a web player or you can download a player. They have both Windows and OS X clients, I have them both, they work great. You can then start seeing what you have in common with your friends. It works with Windows Media Player and iTunes to learn your listening style.

You can see my profile and get the links to listen and download the client. Add me as a friend to your profile when you get one setup.

Massive Flooding

Took three hours to get home from work today, leaving at 3pm. It has been raining very hard non stop for three days now. Bothell and Kenmore are flooded and being evacuated. The next exit up on the freeway is underwater. Good times. At least my house it at a higher elevation and isn't in at any risk at this point. But it's a disaster all over the state. Hopefully this clears up soon.

This is right down the street.

Updates

Well, Apple just released Leopard 10.5.1, basically the first service pack. This seems to have cleared up all the wireless issues with certs I was having at work. RapidWeaver is up to Alpha 4 now. I haven't had a system crash now in over a week. Yippie.. Always fun being the first one on the block with the new software. Now I can get around to adding some more pictures.

Oh yes.. I found my missing Ruby pictures, so I'll be adding a section for those.

Leopard and Web Authoring

So.. About that Leopard praise I had. Well, that was until I actually tried to publish it. Then everything exploded. Bad issues with my Web software (Rapid Weaver) and Leopard. But the folks at Rapid Weaver are great and have already pushed out two alpha builds that seem to be getting the problems resolved. If you are reading this, it means that the Alpha 2 build is somewhat stable. Hopefully I can put up some more reviews of my RAID gear and not have it crash on me repeatedly.

Other than that, Leopard still rocks.. :-)

Leopard

Well. Leopard is out now.. How is it? Well for me, it's great. My games that have been ported to OS X from Windows via Cider work GREAT now. Battlefield 2142 works perfectly, no crashes on boot, which is actually the default behavior on Tiger and EA just ignored it. OpenGL updates in Leopard really help these Cider games perform.

Time Machines, great idea. Well except it destroyed my weekend trying to get an external eSATA solution working. I was already running low on drive space and needing to mirror my boot drive didn't help. Due to this weekend of frustration, I have added a Mac Hardware section to my site to hopefully save some other pour soul from the same. I have about five reviews to write now due to this.

All that drama aside, so far I am loving Leopard. Had a few apps I had to reinstall after upgrade, nothing major. No major issues yet.

Sigh

Well, I seem to have lost about 100 pictures from 2004 that I was looking to put up. :-( No idea where they went. Pictures from Ruby Arizona. Decided to put up some Ruby pics, after telling a co-worker about it. Well out of the tens of thousands of pictures I have, around 100 seem to have vanished. Guess I will be going back there in December.

Oh well, I did a new section in the Ghost Towns area for Rhyolite Nevada. Check it out..

Red Bull Soapbox Derby

Yesterday was the Red Bull Soapbox Derby in Fremont. It was a blast, the weather was cold and rainy which sucked, but the race was great. I just added pictures from it in the Photo Galleries section.

Macro Photography

After seeing a bunch of Macro shots from the photography group at work, I decided it was time to try it out. So last week I picked up the 100mm EF 2.8 Macro lens from Kenmore Camera. I love it and it should be great for the upcoming rainy season. I have added a Macro Photography section to the site. Check it out..

iDay and Me

Well. Today is iDay. The iPhone goes on sale in about an hour from now. I have never seen so much hype for a cell phone. Everyone is standing in line. It's insane.. Debating on getting one. Not standing in line, I want to see what last minute details are reviled.

Here are my current issues.

1) Exchange Direct Push Active Sync Support. I get all my email in real time on my HTC Hermes (ATT 8525) - Running a custom build of Windows Mobile 6. I have gotten used to the real time email. It's a blessing and a curse to be able to keep up with what's going on at the office. This is supposedly coming via Apple or a third party. I'll want to find out first before drop 600 bucks.
2) No 3G. Yes it's limited, yes it chews battery life. But I have it now.. :-( Edge is slower, but looks like it just 2x-4x jumped in speed last night. Looks like a last minute ATT and Apple surprise.
3) 8GB? Why not 30GB or so like current iPods? I'll fill 8GB fast..
4) No blue tooth modem support. Having a 3G and Edge wireless connection for the laptop rocks when I need some info out in the sticks when driving. But at the same time, if Safari works as good as it looks, maybe I can just use the phone to look up things.. Still having this is nice..

That's about it. I want one, but want to see what the story is for email first. Other issues are not deal breakers..

So.. We shall see in a few days.. 3G support coming for UK iPhone?? Rumor has it.. I'll take on of these phones please.. :-)
